is about how we can reason about the structural properties of a text without needing to assert that all meaning resides in the text itself. It’s my attempt to integrate structuralism with its post-structural critique into something new, and it leverages LLMs and concepts like latent space to explore how we might reconcile some of these tensions. The ideas explored here later evolved into something I tried to capture in , but honestly there’s a lot here that I’m still thinking through. was born in spring of 2023 during my first experience of what we might today call LLM psychosis - just me and the LLM contemplating reality and coming to really profound conclusions. I will say, though, that unlike most work derived under those conditions, I wrote every single word of this myself. I wasn’t actually talking to the LLM about the ideas, I was having the ideas while talking to the LLM about other stuff, and while my thinking about a lot of these ideas has evolved significantly since I wrote this there remains a kernel here that I keep coming back to. I have a sense that, in some form or another, these ideas aren’t quite done with me yet.
Philosophical Musing
I think a lot - honestly, not as much as I used to, so I’m getting better! But sometimes the thoughts come, and sometimes I am able to capture them into a format that allows me to share them. The projects I’m including here are unfinished, meandering and yet, for me, oddly compelling. They’re all sort of circling the same hyperobject, and sometimes I develop these ideas further - but consider this page a sort of parking lot for notes about things I’m thinking about.
