I’ve spent a large portion of my life trying to understand myself. When I was 35 I finally realized that there was a reason for all the ways that life seemed kinda odd for me - I learned that I was autistic and ADHD, and that it informed every part of my life in ways I had not really understood.
Over the following years I made a concerted effort to understand these ideas, the way they play out for me, and more importantly the way in which countless people are to this day moving through life as I was - without knowing the questions to ask in order to bring understanding and peace to lives that were frequently much harder than they had any way to articulate.
The is my attempt to gather writing and advice for folks, and I’ve been receiving feedback for years now that the way I’ve presented things here has allowed individuals to understand themselves, and to better relate to their loved ones. Included are a number of essays I’ve written, as well as a section containing essays I’ve paid other neurodivergent writers to contribute.
But before I created that resource, I first spent some time on Reddit trying to find a place where I could ask questions about this stuff without everything escalating into conflict that so often felt senseless. Eventually, I realized I could just create a subreddit specifically for the purpose of supporting folks who were questioning and wanted to find a way to “translate” the often dry, unrelatable clinical definitions around autism into terms that they could relate to - and so I did, and was born. I’m not very active there these days, but last I checked there were over 50k subscribers to that subreddit and members frequently refer to it as one of the most wholesome places they’ve ever seen on reddit. I take a lot of pride in that.
